Plant Based Activewear: Why it matters!

The rise of yoga pants over the past decade has turned into a polyester revival, which is not good for our bodies (or our planet). Unfortunately polyester is made up of plastics, and even recycled plastics break down while being washed. That means that tiny pieces of plastic end up in our waterways every time we wash our polyester activewear. Humans are estimated to consume a credit card amount of plastic every week. EVERY WEEK!! Read more about the issue here!

Purusha People activewear was made in response to this issue. Instead of using polyester, they use a plant based fiber made from eucalyptus, acacia, birch, beech, pine, poplar, and maple trees. The “Forest Fiber” as they call it, is sustainably sourced from Eastern Europe.

Purusha People plant based activewear review

After wearing Purusha People for a full year, I can confidently say they will be my go to brand to get activewear for years to come. My first time wearing plant based activewear was when I tried Purusha People last year. I started off with just leggings and a sports bra. I was personally worried about how the clothes would hold up after multiple washes (I walk Zero, my Doberman daily. My yoga pants go through more washes than normal). A year and hundreds of washes later, I’m happy to report that both the pants and sports bra have held up! The pants have gotten thinner over time but are still wearable. The sports bra, which had more layers of fiber to begin with, has only lost some of it’s stretch.

I was so pleased with my first Purusha People order that I ordered a new set a few months later. For my next set I got biker shorts, a matching sports bra, and a long sleeve top. Each style has a different level of Forest Fiber thickness, but each piece has held up as well as, if not better than, my old polyester activewear items.

New Spring Drop: Forever and Always

“Forever and Always” sneak peek

Purusha People drops their new collection “Forever and Always” tomorrow May 6th at 8pm EST. This drop is inspired by aspects of nature that are always present: flowers blooming for the first time, bumblebees collecting pollen, etc. They’ve only given me one sneak peek, but it’s a gorgeous pastel lavender color set (pictured above). I’ll update this post with more links and pictures when they drop!

This drop is extra exciting because a portion of the proceeds will be donated to “Trees for the Future”! We can all feel extra warm & fuzzy shopping this drop knowing we’re supporting our own health while our money is used to support the health and wellness of others.

Trees For The Future teaches farming communities in sub-Saharan Africa to embrace sustainable land practices, reclaim their agency, break the cycles of climate change and generational poverty, and rebuild our food systems from the ground up.” – Purusha People PR
