Rose Petal fibers are being incorporated into select For Love and Lemons pieces for a more sustainable, and better smelling, option. I had never heard of Rose Petal fibers or rose petal fabrics before this announcement; so I was very interested to test it out! I ordered the Carly Mini Dress for my first Rose Petal experience. It’s the dress I’m wearing in the image above; a short & romantic mini with an open back and princess-like details.

My first experience with Rose Petal fibers:

First Impressions: OMG THE SMELL!!! The fabric smells EXACTLY like a fresh bouquet of roses. It’s so fragrant that you start to smell it before you even open the bag. The smell of roses is my favorite, so I was already smitten with the dress before trying it on.

Trying it on: I got my normal dress size for For Love and Lemons for this dress (M for reference). The fabric is 26.8% Rose and 73.2% Rayon (the lining is 98% recycled polyester and 2% spandex. It is SO soft to the touch! The only critique I have is that it’s not the most forgiving fabric. I’ve gained some “pandemic pounds” that sit on my hips and this fabric clung to it a little bit. That’s also most likely due to the rayon. The sleeves are slightly puffy up top so you don’t have to worry about tight upper arms (something I run into with FLL dresses sometimes); and the bust is very supportive! I wear mine sans bra.

The fabric moves with you (it isn’t stiff), it’s so soft you won’t want to take it off, and smells like heaven on earth. I highly recommend purchasing anything FLL makes with the rose petal fibers (they’re all listed and linked below!). I’m personally planning on adding a few more rose petal pieces to my closet sometime soon!

What are Rose Petal Fibers:

Rose petal fibers are sustainably made out of fallen rose petals and can be used for blended fabrics (this is why FLL blended it with Rayon). Rose Petal Fibers are replacing silk and silk blends since their softness rivals that of silks. Silk is traditionally known as extremely harmful to the environment since silk worms are killed in the process and companies that produce the silk usually have questionable labor policies (child and forced labor issues).

Rose Petal Fibers are created with left over rose petals and rose bushes by using the raw cellulose materials found within them. The process of separating the materials to be used from the leftover roses can be done in a natural way, but sometimes is done with the use of harsh chemicals. I always say, email the brand and ask where they source the materials from if you’re curious!

Also, a reminder that Rose Fibers are not able to be used in a fabric on their own. They have to be blended with another fabric (like rayon in For Love and Lemons’ case).

Unfortunately, there isn’t a convenient “Rose Fiber” category on For Love and Lemons site. And a site search for “rose fiber” gets you absolutely nowhere. So I went ahead and put all the links together for us! Check out all the For Love and Lemon Rose Fiber options below! If you notice that I missed any, please leave a comment with the item link or name!! Thank you!
