Selkie Mystery Bags return!

UPDATE: Mystery bags, or *surprise bags* are going on sale tomorrow at 10am pst!!!! There will be two different options available!!!!!! The $50 sample surprise bag which comes with 2 sample items and the $150 dress surprise bag that comes with one dress and two surprise items!

Selkie Mystery bags are coming back THIS month. These goodie bags from heaven were available for purchase twice last year; but after multiple customers complained about not getting what they wanted (ridiculous 🙄) the brand threatened that they may never return. Selkie lovers everywhere were crushed when they thought mystery bags were over; but thankfully, they’re back!

The Selkie Mystery bags were $150 each last year. Every bag had either an extremely popular/sought after piece, or a dress/skirt and two other random pieces. Based on what I received, as well as what I’ve seen from other’s mystery bags, “random pieces” are tops/sweatshirts.

The mystery bags sold out in minutes (if not seconds) last year, so set your alarms once we know the launch date and time! I’ll make a clock on my instagram that you can save and I’ll update this post with the information once it’s announced. 🤗⏰

Selkie Mystery bags: What you need to know

The thought that went into each bag last year was just unbelievable. When you place your order, you can leave a little note to let the Selkie team know what you’re interested in. You can put a favorite color, collection, or pattern. For example, if you only want pastel colored items, you would write “pastels please!”.

Selkie wasn’t producing as many styles last year, so I had been able to keep up and get pieces I wanted from the first few collections. I was more interested in getting unique Selkie pieces, so I wrote a note on each order saying I owned a lot of Selkie and was looking for “samples/tests/unique”.

What I got in my Selkie Mystery Bags last year

Last year I got three different mystery bags, and have no regrets 😂 !

In my first Selkie bag I got: A rare, one of a kind pillow sweatshirt and a two piece set in the tropical hibiscus flower print. In my second mystery bag I got a rare parliament dress in a one of a kind pattern and a unique hoodie and mini skirt in the cabbage print. All six of those pieces were seemingly one of a kind? In my third bag I got the buttercup puff dress, a 90’s grunge looking plaid wrap skirt, and the original cupcake puff dress. I was devastated when I learned the puff was based on bust 🥺… neither of them fit! Thankfully I was able to sell them on Poshmark and made all my money back! I also sold the wrap skirt because it didn’t go with enough pieces already in my closet.

What to do if your Selkie sizing is all over the place

If you’re like me, your Selkie sizing is all over the place. Each style is so unique, you truly need to pay attention before hitting “check out”. I’m writing a guide on Selkie sizing (after a lot of trial and error) that I’ll link here once I’m done!

Personally, I’m a size Medium in Puffs, parliaments and Bistro blouses; a size small in skirts, tops, dresses and non-pillow sweaters; and finally an extra small in any sweaters and some jackets. I’m three different sizes when it comes to Selkie. That becomes an issue with the mystery bags because the items are bagged together based on size.

Last year I ordered two mystery bags in the first drop. Both of them were a size small for the sake of time. Mystery bags sell out quick; if you take the time to add a second size bag to your cart you could loose them both. I put two bags in size small immediately into my cart and checked out. When I went back to the mystery bags, every size had already sold out.

I ended up loving most of the items that came in the first two bags, so I got a size small bag in the second drop as well. Unfortunately, that bag was all items I needed a medium in! But no worries, I was able to sell all the items that didn’t fit for almost retail price on Poshmark and made all my money back!!

Quick reminders

They are MYSTERY bags. You’re not guaranteed anything.
If you don’t like what you got, you have plenty of opportunities to sell your pieces!!
Don’t be a jerk if you don’t get what you want, just sell them!
The Selkie team works REALLY hard to put together what you want with what they have. But you need to lave a note on your order form! They can’t read your mind!
Mystery bags were almost cancelled forever because people were jerks last year. So again, please, DON’T BE A JERK!
THEY SELL OUT FAST. Plan on what size and how many bags you’re going to purchase ahead of time.
